325,000 MOBILE HEALTH APPS AVAILABLE IN 2017

Since last year 78,000 new health apps have been added to major app stores. Digital health has developed into a sound business, attracting players from various industries outside of healthcare. As apps become more expensive to develop and users are more reluctant to download them, creating a successful health app is becoming harder and harder.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES BREACH EXPOSED DATA FOR AT LEAST TWO YEARS

A recent security upgrade at the catholic charities Glens Falls office discovered that unauthorized software had been downloaded onto a server since 2015. 4,600 individuals are being notified of the breach and will receive identity theft protection and credit monitoring services. Compromised information included patient names, addresses, DOB, diagnostic codes and some health insurance identification numbers.

NEW YORK-PRESBYTERIAN SPECIALISTS USE TELEMEDICINE TO TREAT
STRANDED PUERTO RICANS

The medical center jumped in after Hurricane Maria to deliver care services in what it calls a proof-of-concept for using telehealth tools in emergency response. The move comes as many hospitals and telemedicine companies have been offering free virtual consultations to people in storm-ravaged areas in Florida, Texas, and Puerto Rico. Telemedicine is beneficial to deliver specialist and sub-specialist care in ways that the emergency responders simply cannot without the tools.
